Los Bomberos de Los Angeles is proud to announce the promotion of Assistant Chief Steve Gutierrez to the rank of Deputy Chief. Chief Gutierrez will be in charge of the department's Training and Support Bureau (TSB). TSB oversees all training, recruitment, professional development, logistics and acquisitions for the LAFD. The Commander of TSB serves as one of the most influential positions in the department. Chief Gutierrez will also lead the department's efforts to ensure diversity in our ranks and equal opportunities for all.

We are proud that Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas selected Steve for such an important role. While the field of candidates was impressive, we know Steve will be the right leader for the job.

Chief Steve Gutierrez, is a 35 year veteran of the LAFD, currently assigned as the Commander of the LAFD Professional Standards Division. Steve promoted through the ranks and has served the LAFD in multiple field and staff assignments.

Steve served as a Captain in the United States Army and a veteran of the 6th Army Air Assault Division and the 306th Psychological Operations Division. Steve comes from a family of public service. His grandfather served as a young U.S. Marine Officer and was part of the Guadalcanal invasion in August of 1942.  He earned both a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.  Steve’s grandfather, a member of the “Greatest Generation,” insisted that all of his kids and grandchildren, serve our country in some capacity. As such all of the Gutierrez family devoted a portion of their life in the United States Armed Forces.
